Kwale County Sensitization and Roadshow

Clean Cooking Association of Kenya have partnered with Hivos, the Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender affairs and the County Government of Kwale for a project dubbed ‘The involvement of women in clean cooking entrepreneurial initiatives’ and is supported under the Green and Inclusive Strategic Partnership – Energy Programme. The project is being implemented at Kwale County and aims to sensitize communities, and especially vulnerable women, on the need to embrace clean cooking, while prescribing clean cooking as a viable entrepreneurship venture.

Recently, CCAK held a Clean Cooking Sensitization Forum at Kwale County, targeting vulnerable girls and women. This initiative is expected to lead to a change of affirmative funding policy for women undertaking energy projects and a change in economic empowerment programming policy within the Gender Ministry. The initiative attempts to improve their socio-economic situations by providing a viable livelihood alternative for those who may not have stable income; not forgetting the long term impact on the health, environment and on energy access of these 900 women and their communities. The sensitization forum was later followed up by a roadshow along Lungalunga and Msabweni Market which aimed at informing people and creating awareness on the importance of clean cooking and use of the affirmative funds which can create entrepreneurial opportunities.

Another sensitization forum and roadshow will be held in mid-February 2020 in Kinango and Matuga Sub-County of which the planning and other logistics will be shared with members in due time.
