1st Health, Environment and Climate Change Conference

Globally, 23% of all deaths and 26% of deaths among children under age 5 are due to preventable environmental factors. It is now recognized that pollution (water, air, soil and chemical) are the biggest environmental cause of disease and premature death in the world and disproportionately kills the poor and the vulnerable. This is why the Ministry of Health through KEMRI collaborated with CCAK and other key stakeholders and held the 1st Health, Environment and Climate Change Conference on Monday 2nd and 3rd December 2019. The conference aimed at addressing the health adaptation, resilience and technology choices to climate change challenges with commitments to advance the sustainable development goals (SDGs), Vision 2030 and the Big Four Agenda.

The conference convened key stakeholders in health and environment including national government institutions, County Governments, multi-lateral organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Academia, research institutions, civil organizations and the private sector.

During the conference, CCAK represented by Mr. David Njugi, (C.E.O) gave a keynote address on the delivery of universal health coverage through climate smart actions, focusing on harnessing multi-sectorial approach to spur clean cooking sector growth. CCAK also got a chance to exhibit their products and that of their members. Representing the members were Nyalore Impact ltd with Bioethanol fuels and ethanol cookstove, and F&M Industries Limited with a multi-purpose cookstove (4 in 1 cookstove).
